Nicely done, Linda. I think you captured Mom’s essence. I wonder if she really saw her life as a failure, though. I remember her saying in her 70s that she was an underachiever–but she was okay with that! She had the dreams, but not the drive. That’s part of why she drove us so hard…as Sandra comments, she was part of the generation that started us on the road to liberation. She is missed.

And you are gloriously following in your Mom’s undisciplined footprints! This is a beautiful piece of writing that moved me to tears in the Boston airport. My 88 year old Mom is still in this world and of the same generation – the one that didn’t think they accomplished much – but they started us all on the road to feminine liberation. Happy Mother’s Day to them all!
